Grocery Shopping at WalMart vs. the Commissary

Since we are going to be having a baby soon, we have been trying to save money and budget ourselves. This means cutting down on the foods we buy each week at the grocery store. Lately, I have been shopping at Wal-Mart for all our groceries. However, this week I decided to go to the Commissary to see if it was any cheaper than Wal-Mart (since I've become accustomed to the prices at Wal-Mart, I can now really do a comparison). Well I was happily surprised to see that the Commissary has much lower prices than Wal-Mart! Now the produce out here in Alabama cannot compare to what we have in CA, and neither Wal-Mart or the Commissary have a great produce section, however, I did notice that the Commissary had much cheaper prices on produce. For example, I got a bundle of bananas for only a dollar at the Commissary. The same bundle would cost me at least $2 at Wal-Mart. The last and final determining factor is that the Commissary does NOT charge tax - this can save us around $10 each time we shop, which is HUGE!
Overall, I suggest all military families shop at the Commissary for groceries instead of Wal-Mart or another leading Grocery store. Certain items will be less expensive and you will save on tax.
